2000 Nuits-St.-Georges
Premier Cru Les Vignes Rondes

Domaine Daniel Rion
Burgundy

90 Rating

Just lovely. A combination of ripe red fruit and mineral notes mingle with subtle smoke in this balanced, concentrated medium-bodied and elegant Pinot. Very reserved on the use of wood, providing a blunt translation of Nuits terroir. $60

Chateau Greysac
2003
Medoc, Bordeaux, France

88 Rating

A sleeper of the vintage, the gorgeously plump 2003 Greysac may be even better than my score indicates.  It reveals hints of sweet cherries, figs, plums, and smoky licorice along with supple tannin, a beautiful texture, medium body, and no hard edges.  This luscious, tasty Medoc should drink well for 6-8 years.

Chateau Lafleur-Gazin
2001 Pomerol
, Bordeaux, France

90 Rating

One of the finest examples to emerge from this chateau in many years, the 2001 reveals a deep ruby color with purple nuances in addition to a perfume of sweet plums, black cherries, earth, truffles, and prunes. Medium-bodied with a sweet attack, ripe tannin and a nicely layered, plush finish, it should be delicious young yet keep for well over a decade. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013.

2002 Chateau Gloria
Saint-Julien

89 Rating

Abundant amounts of licorice, smoke, herbs, cherries, and currants emerge from this deep ruby/purple-tinged, full-bodied, up-front, flamboyant 2002. It relies more on fruit and terroir than new oak to seduce the taster.  Surprisingly supple and fleshy for the vintage, it is undeniably a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next decade.
