Chateau Lafleur-Gazin
2001 Pomerol
, Bordeaux, France

90 Rating

One of the finest examples to emerge from this chateau in many years, the 2001 reveals a deep ruby color with purple nuances in addition to a perfume of sweet plums, black cherries, earth, truffles, and prunes. Medium-bodied with a sweet attack, ripe tannin and a nicely layered, plush finish, it should be delicious young yet keep for well over a decade. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2013.

Chateau Lynch Bages
2004
Pauillac, Bordeaux, France

89 Rating

Attractive cassis aromas jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004. While elegant, medium-bodied, soft, and broad in the mouth, it is slightly superficial, without the broodingly deep, backward, muscular personality of this estate’s wines prior to 2001. Given its flavor profile and softness, the 2004 will have wide consumer appeal if drunk over the next 10-14 years.

Kunde Viognier
2008 Sonoma Valley, California,
USA

WE 88

Shows the exotic fruitmess of Viognier, wih a blast of tangerine, pineapples, Meyer lemons, limes and green apples, with flowery honeysuckle and jasmine notes.  The wine shows subtle oak notes, but is mainly notable for its forward flavors, elegant dryness and crisply bright acidity.

Outstanding Value.
Here's a solid Burgundy that delivers ripe sumptuous flavors on the palate as well an indicative hue of peak development.

It's rare to find value of this kind on today's Burgundy market!

Chateau Lamarque
1998
Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, France

86 Rating

Elegant and subtle, with pretty currant, black cherry and plum flavors, but then the tannins begin to take hold. The fruit pours through on the finish, with a touch of smokiness.

Chateau Gloria
2002
Cru Bourgeois, Medoc
Bordeaux, France

89 Rating

Abundant amounts of licorice, smoke, herbs, cherries, and currants emerge from this deep ruby/purple-tinged, full-bodied, up-front, flamboyant 2002. It relies more on fruit and terroir than new oak to seduce the taster. Surprisingly supple and fleshy for the vintage, it is undeniably a sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next decade.

Chateau La Croix Bellevue
2000
Lalande De Pomerol
Bordeaux, France

Lalande-de-Pomerol, the village to the northwest of Pomerol proper, often produces wines that are very similar in structure.  La Croix Bellevue exhibits dense merlot fruit, solids tannins and structure to last many years.

2000 Nuits-St.-Georges
Premier Cru Les Vignes Rondes

Domaine Daniel Rion

Just lovely. A combination of ripe red fruit and mineral notes mingle with subtle smoke in this balanced, concentrated medium-bodied and elegant Pinot. Very reserved on the use of wood, providing a blunt translation of Nuits terroir. $60
